This unit has a seriously weak motor. I have another brand back in Oregon that looks almost completely identical but it has a much stronger motor. I think it’s a Sunbeam. Knives easily get bogged down with this unit – and often get stuck if you don’t feed it very, V-E-R-Y, gently and slowly! You might get so disgusted with it that you’ll throw it out the window at any moment, or use it as a lightweight boat anchor. It cost the same as my other one but I give the Sunbeam an 8 and this one a 2.

Additionally this thing has both the outside (and) inside grindstones sitting toward the outside of the unit – and too offset to allow proper and equal grinding.

If you have the patience and stealthy-light touch of a pit viper you might use it anyway (like I do up in Alaska), but only if you are desparate. Basically it is only a marginal-value product. Do yourself a favor, buy a diferent brand.
