Finding The Best Cordless Electric Knife | Cordless Electric Knife

Shopping for the best cordless electric knife can be confusing.  There are so many different types of cordless electric knives to choose from.  There are also just as many different brands of cordless electric carving knives.  Here are some things to consider when purchasing your knife.

1.  Be Sure to Read Customer Reviews

It’s a good idea to read customer reviews online.  One of my favorite places to read reviews from real people is on Amazon.com.  Amazon places stars next to the products, which are voted by people who have actually reviewed the item.  Don’t just believe the stars, people sometimes give excellent products a lower grade from crazy reasons, like slow shipping (because they didn’t pay for fast shipping), or other reasons which have nothing to do with the actual product.  So be sure to scroll down and read the reviews.

2.  Cordless Electric Knife Weight

Knife weight is extremely important.  Many people don’t want a really heavy knife.  You don’t want to be having to hold up a heavy electric carving knife for extended periods of cutting time.  This would quickly get old but at the same time, you likely want some weight behind the knife.  Knife weight is really a personal preference but is definitely something to think about.

The handle size should be big enough so that you can get a hold of it easily but at the same time, you don’t want an overly large and bulky handle.

4.  Cordless Rechargeable Electric Knife versus a Corded Electric Knife

When shopping for an electric knife for cooking in the kitchen, don’t completely rule out a nice corded knife.  Sure there are some cases when a cordless electric knife is a must, like cordless electric fillet knives for fishing but most times, especially in the kitchen a corded knife will do just fine.  There are some great corded knifes on the market which have excellent customer reviews such as:

When shopping for electric knives, you may also want to consider purchasing an electric knife sharpener to keep your new knife blades nice and sharp so it will cut through meats like butter.

Choosing The Best Kitchen Cutlery Sets

Setting up a new kitchen or buying new items for your cooking space is naturally going to involve selecting cutlery sets so that you can have them out on display and use them when the time comes. Though you may be tempted to pick up any good-looking kitchen cutlery, not all kitchen cutlery sets are created equal. You can find some on the low end of quality and some on the high end. You should be looking at several factors when picking and choosing kitchen cutlery, including the material quality of the knives and the size of the set.

Types of Kitchen Cutlery Sets

Some cutlery sets are designed as “starter” sets. These are smaller sets of knives and utilities, composed of three to five knives and often recommended if you’re looking for a multi-purpose set for taking care of the basics for cooking, cutting and chopping.

A starter set might include the chef’s knife, an all-purpose knife with a curved blade edge used for many different types of chopping, dicing and slicing. You can use it for just about anything, including meats and vegetables. Starter kitchen cutlery sets also commonly include other essentials, such as a paring knife, utility knife and perhaps even a few steak knives.

On the other hand, you can buy larger cutlery sets that include specialty knifes and utilities. Along with a chef’s knife, larger sets typically come with a bread knife, a longer serrated knife used to cut breads and other foods with a hard, outer shell and soft inside. They also come with a carving knife, slicing knife and a variety of other meat knifes, including boning, fillet and cleaver knives. Specialized kitchen cutlery includes cheese and tomato knives, decorating knife and mincing knife.

Material Quality of the Set

An issue of importance when selecting the best cutlery sets for your needs is the material quality of which the knives are made.

There are actually a variety of materials used for kitchen knives. Generally, the better quality material means the higher-priced the set will be. Nevertheless, you can find the knives composed of materials like stainless steel, carbon steel, high carbon stainless, and titanium or laminated.

Titanium blades are lightweight and can resist wear, but it’s a material not usually recommended for heavy-duty cutting jobs. Laminated kitchen knive sets are composed of high-quality, hard material that’s often recommended if you’re concerned with an accurate cutting ability.

Two popular materials for cutlery sets include stainless steel and high-carbon stainless. Stainless steel knives are usually easy to use and corrosion-resistant. High-carbon stainless, likewise, doesn’t stain, discolor and is protective against corrosion as well. The difference between the two materials is that regular stainless steel needs to be sharpened more often, whereas high-carbon stainless maintains a sharper edge for a longer time.

Finally, you also want to consider the knife block that’s paired with the kitchen cutlery. A variety of materials and colors can be used to create eye-catching appearances. For example, you can find stainless steel blocks, blocks composed of natural wood as well as other wood finishes. When you’re considering the block, it’s important to choose the kitchen knife sets that match the rest of the decor in the kitchen area. As you can see, you should give a lot of thought to the type of kitchen cutlery set you buy. You need to take into consideration not only the amount of knives and utilities that come in a set, but also the quality, material and appearance of both the knives and the block used to store them.

Varieties of kitchen knives

Buying a kitchen may seem to look like a simple project but it is actually not so, as there are plenty of varieties of knife to choose from. You need to determine which one you need for your kitchen activities. No matter what your purpose behind making this purchase whether you want a knife for cutting cheese, bread, fish or for cutting fruits and vegetables you need to buy something that fulfills your requirements.

There are people who often wonder that why are there are so many different types of knife. They are available in wide range in different size, shape, design and color. Each knife is designed for specific purpose and so you need to have one that can fulfill your culinary needs. It hardly makes any difference whether you need to buy a set of knives or a single one.

There are plenty of uses of kitchen knives so you need to educate yourself that which one would be better for you. There are many that are considered as must have in kitchen. Some of them are:

A bread knife- it is one of the most important knives to have. They are designed for cutting bread without leaving crumbs behind.  These knives make bread easy to cut.

Cheese Knives- these knives are great to have. They are built for slicing through the cheese.

Vegetable knives: these knives are an essential part of every kitchen as they are used for cutting vegetables and fruits. As they are going to be used almost daily it is good to buy one that is easy to hold and is well constructed.

Kitchen Knife Safety

Having a sharp knife to use for cooking is essential for both the preparation of the meal and your safety. A dull knife is more dangerous than a sharp one. There are certain rules you must follow in order to handle a knife safely. Nothing will ruin a dinner quicker than cutting your self.

Rules for handling a knife safely are:

1. Think about what you are doing. Getting distracted while using a knife is a sure way to cut the wrong item.2. Use the correct type of knife for what you are doing.3. Use a cutting board that won’t slide around.4. Don’t talk with your hands while cutting. You could injure yourself and whoever is standing close to you.5. Even though you’ve played baseball as a kid, don’t try to catch a knife if you drop it. 6. Don’t leave a knife in the sink for someone else to wash. Anyone could reach into the water not seeing the knife.

To sharpen a knife, the best way I found, was to take it back to the store where you bought the knife and have them sharpen it. But if you prefer to do it yourself, you will have to buy a whetstone. To use a whetstone, place the heel of the blade against the whetstone at a 20-degree angle. Keeping that angle, press down on the blade while pushing it away from you in one long arc. The entire blade should come in contact with the whetstone. Keep the stone wet with either water or mineral oil, but not both. Do not use vegetable oil.

A steel is used for honing or straightening the blade. The blade is placed at a 20-degree angle on the steel and run along it several times on each side of the blade.

Gripping a knife should be what is most comfortable to you. One method is to hold the handle with three fingers while gripping the blade between the thumb and index finger.

There are many different types of slicing and dicing. But with any of them, safety with a knife is the primary concern.

Buying a Chefs Knife – Two Things You Need to Know

When you are looking at cooking knives you might be a little confused when you are confronted with a massive array of different types of kitchen knife. Well the reason there are so many different types of knife is that there each are designed with a specific purpose in mind. Of all the different types of knife though, the most diverse is the chef’s knife. If there was one piece of advice I would give, it’s that if for some reason you are only going to buy one kitchen knife, make it a chef’s knife. A good chef’s knife can be used for chopping up fruits and vegetables, slicing cooked or raw meat, slicing cheese and other general tasks like slicing sandwiches up. OK, so we’ve narrowed down the kitchen knife section to the chef’s knives, but you’re still probably a little dumbfounded at how many different chef’s knives there still are. Well, like with most other kitchen items, this is because different peoples’ hands as well as their cooking styles will affect how well they get on with a particular chef’s knife. There are two things in particular which you need to think about which will help you make the right choice.

The Size of your Hands

Believe it or not, one of the most important things to think about when you buy a chef’s knife is the size of your hands. If you only have small, slim hands then you are probably not going to work well with a large, heavy chef’s knife. If on the other hand you have hands like a bear then you will probably find a small, light chef’s knife a little flimsy and you might find it more difficult to get enough force on the knife to chop things. You should then look at both the dimensions of the knives and the weight of the knives to decide which is going to work best for you.

The other reason that the size of your hands may be important is due to the grips which are on most chef’s knives’ handles. If you have large hands you will probably be able to accommodate any moulded grip the knife has. If however you have small hands you may be better selecting a flattened handle rather than one with a moulded grip.

The Range of Tasks You Need the Knife For

The second important thing to think about is the different tasks which you will use the knife for. If you have a whole host of knives and you will only use your chef’s knife for chopping up smaller vegetables and slicing meat then a short blade may be sufficient. If you are going to regularly perform tasks such as slicing open melons then a longer blade will be necessary. Also, if you are working in a time-restricted environment it may be better to buy a longer-bladed chef’s knife which will allow you to chop more at once than a smaller blade.
