R. Murphy 10″ Chef’s Knife – Review and Giveaway
R. Murphy send me a 10″ Chef’s Knife to review and tell you about. I just got a new set of knives for Christmas from my kids. I don’t recall the name brand, but I believe they bought them at the mall. I know they paid quite a bit for them. The handle is plastic, and the blades are all serrated. It’s not that they’re not nice, and the gesture was wonderful since I needed knives. To me, there’s no more perfect gift than one that says “I get you.” It shows they put some thought behind getting something that would help me, or something that really is “me.” Just in case you were shopping for a gift for Gimmie… now you know.
Not to “look a gift horse in the mouth” but this new 10″ Chef’s Knife from R. Murphy really puts into perspective what a good, quality knife can be! How’s that for diplomacy and tact!?
The R. Murphy 10″ Chef’s Knife is an amazing kitchen tool. For example, last night I made chicken that started out frozen. I defrosted for a while, but it wasn’t completely thawed when I was ready to throw it on the grill. Because the chicken breasts I had were so large. I decided to filet them – cutting a big chunk of meat off the top to make two pieces. Normally this is a task that requires sawing, fighting, and perhaps ripping – even with the Christmas knives. Because it was closest (and shiniest), I grabbed the R. Murphy 10″ Chef’s Knife for the job. Not only did it skim through the chicken “like butter” (I’ve always wanted to say that!) but it went clear through – the skin and everything (not mine, the chicken’s!) It’s very sharp, and really well balanced.
Which brings me to another point. A sharp knife is much safer to use than a dull one. That’s one of those phenomenons similar to why cold water boils faster than hot water (lol), but it’s true. You’re more likely to have to work at using a dull knife, which leaves you open to accidents. A knife that slices through easily doesn’t require any invasive action to maneuver. So, it’s safer to use. This knife is super sharp.
For a long time I had a favorite knife. I know my grandma had a favorite knife too. I’m not sure if that means I’m not crazy, or if I got the idea from her and we’re both loony. (I’m going to resist the urge to make a joke about a crazy knife-wielding freebie hunter.) Either way, the 10″ Chef’s Knife is by far my new favorite.
It’s the only knife you’ll ever need! But wait… there’s more!! Okay, there’s not more I just wanted to say that too. I’ve always wondered why they threw in the set of steak knives if the first one was the only knife you’ll ever need? *giggle*
Seriously. These guys have been in business for 161 years. They’re not making wild claims about cutting through a car, or whatever. They make a high-quality product that is built to last. That’s my kind of sales pitch.
