One reviewer shared how he had initially been hesitant about needing the curved knife and the serrated paring knife, but the price for the set was only slightly higher than the individual paring knife he needed; as it turned out, he wound up using the curved knife more than any other knife. Another reviewer was left handed and he found these knives to be very easy to use and effective; he was also happy that they were dishwasher-safe. One more reviewer liked the quality of the knives for the price, and said he would recommend it to any beginning cook who did not want to spend too much. The knives were also described as being “sharp as a razor,” and the serrated knife was found perfect for slicing tomatoes. One reviewer shared how her mom has bought these knives for a few friends.

One of the reviewers who gave it a 3.0 star rating said that they were sharp when he first received them, but that they had sadly gone dull since then. Another 3.0 star reviewer found the handles a bit small for his big hands. The only reviewer who gave it 2.0 stars also complained about the sharpness wearing off after about two weeks’ use. However, he updated his review a few years later, that it still retained its edge much better compared to other brands, as they never became dull enough not to be used anymore and they reportedly held up very well. OXO is our favorite brand of kitchen tools and when we found this wonderful collection of practical knives in a gift set we bought one for our house and one for a wedding gift.
There are more expensive knives available but these are well-designed and high quality and an absolute bargain for $100.
All knives are sharp when you buy them, but no knife stays sharp forever. In fact the measure of a good knife is its ability to take and hold an edge after resharpening. OXO PRO Series knives do indeed take and hold an edge after resharpening. The knives are based on OXO’s Universal Design concept and feature non-slip, comfort handles. I also like the fact that all OXO products have a no-nonsense satisfaction guarantee.
For the price of this handsome set you could go out and buy one overpriced German or French knife, which will also need resharpening, or you could spend over $1,000 for some fancy knife sets that will not slice tomatoes or bread any better than OXO’s knives.
Just think of the $900 saved by going for OXO Pro Knives instead of inflated German cutlery, and use the savings for a ticket for yourself to Europe.
