Purchasing a chef knife set seems easy, just get one which as lots of knives you don’t have, right? Or just buy the one that’s endorsed by a famous chef.
No, it’s not that easy. You need the purchase the right chef knife set for you. This may mean more or less knives, a different handle, holder, sharpener, etc. Read my tips before purchasing so that you can be sure to buy something you will like and use.
1. Figure out which knives you need. Which knives do you always seem to find yourself without? A paring knife? A carving knife? Which ones do you think you need the most? There are so many chef knife sets out there that you should not even bother looking at the ones that don’t include the knives you need.
2. Decide whether you would like a holder and which type. Many chef knife sets come with an attractive holder in which you can store all of your new knives. These are usually wooden, but can be made from glass, ceramic, plastic, or even metal.
3. Do you want your chef knife set to come with its own sharpener? This can be very handy, especially if you don’t own one already.
4. Do the knives include a warranty? Try to see if you can find knives that do, this way if they ever break, you don’t have to worry about purchasing new ones.
5. What kind of handle do you want them to have? Knives comes with lots of different types of handles, including wood, metal and plastic. Do you have a preference?
6. Go to a store and test one out. See how it feels in your hand. Is it comfortable?
7. Maintain your budget! Decide on a maximum price and stick to it. There is no reason to overspend here.
